In October 2017 I got word that UK adventurer Lyndon Poskitt was in need of a designer for his vehicle graphics for the 2018 Dakar Rally; A 15-day race across South America. Being the "gearhead" that I am, and having the experience I jumped at the opportunity. Having won the job, it was my pleasure to work with Lyndon (across several varying time zones) laying out the placement and scaling of the decals according to contractual obligations to sponsors. Lyndon afforded me as much creative liberation as he could manage and I am quite pleased all parties achieved such good-looking results.
On top of being Lyndon's support vehicle for the rally, Lyndon took it upon himself to document first hand what it takes to compete in Malle Moto in the Dakar Rally. This had never beed attempted before. Lyndon filmed every stage from GoPro cameras on his bike, and Dario his videographer would edit and upload each stages progress in as real-time as you could get, giving his fans a day-to-day account and record of the highlights of the race. Because of the tight deadline, Lyndon was unable to get the Motorex® Green vinyl in time so the fallback was the original "Races2Places" Blue.
The Malle Moto Box is Unique to the Malle Moto class. Under the rules of Malle Moto, only the rider may perform maintenance on the vehicle at the end of the stage. this means the rider must store all tools and parts necessary for the race in a single container. Lyndon chose to wrap his Malle Moto box with the names of all of his Kickstarter supporters to give him the endurance necessary to complete each grueling stage.
As part of the Kickstarter reward tiers, each supporter received a T-Shirt. After much consideration on design, Lyndon finally settled on adorning the back with every name of his Kickstarter supporters, revealing the Dakar logo.
And of course... Stickers!
